Romney wins CPAC straw poll

In one of the opening skirmishes  in the long – and almost certainly bloody – GOP battle for the 2012 nomination, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney  won the annual Conservative Political Action Convention straw poll Saturday.

While hardly a scientific poll, the CPAC straw vote offers early insight into conservatives’ thinking as Republicans find themselves shut out of power in the White House and Congress for the first time in 16 years. And Romney's victory will give some credence to growing sentiment that he has quietly put himself in strong position for the 2012 contest after losing to John McCain last year. More

Palin files two bills aimed at in-state natural gas development

JUNEAU — Gov. Sarah Palin filed two bills late Friday that she said are the first steps in a plan to develop in-state natural gas for Alaskans.

Many Alaska leaders are calling for in-state natural gas development in advance of a large-diameter, transcontinental line, such as the state licensed TransCanada to pursue under the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act last year. Denali, a joint effort of producers BP and ConocoPhillips, also is planning a large line. More

Palin backs bill requiring parental consent for abortions

UNEAU, Alaska -- Gov. Sarah Palin is backing a bill that would require parental consent for a minor to have an abortion in Alaska.

Rep. John Coghill, R-North Pole, and Sen. Donny Olson, D-Nome, are the main supporters of the bill, and appeared with Palin during a news conference Thursday in the state Capitol.

Palin has voiced strong anti-abortion views, which endeared her to social conservatives in the recent presidential race, but has not pushed that agenda until now. More

U.S.News: Claiming Palin Supporters Are Smearing Gov. Jindal as 'Secret Muslim'

One has to wonder about the thought process of some people. Dan Gilgoff, Faith reporter with U.S. News and World Report and Huffington Post writer, is a perfect example of what I am talking about. After a February 23 posting on Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal's Catholic faith, Gilgoff followed up the next day with a post claiming that Sarah Palin fans were smearing Jindal over his supposedly "secret Muslim" faith. Where did Gilgoff get such a ridiculous idea? Why, from just two commenters that posted on his entry of the 23rd, that's where.

Whatever the case, it is sad that this writer has such a prominent position at a legitimate news outlet to indulge in his hackneyed thinking and partisan bomb throwing. For a man concerned about religion in America, Gilgoff should be ashamed of himself. More
